‘Collecting Happiness’: a mini documentary series on Siargao’s most wholesome women-led organisation: Kolekbibo

Founded in 2021 in the aftermath of Typhoon Odette (Rai), Kolekbibo emerged from a desire to rebuild, reconnect and create lasting opportunities for the communities of Northern Siargao, Philippines. Through community food programs, their shop and restaurant, Kolekbibo empowers local women, promotes balanced nutrition and helps families build a more independent and sustainable future.

But beyond its mission, Kolekbibo is something even more meaningful. It’s a place where atés and nanays welcome you with open arms, where food brings people together and where the warmth of a community makes you feel instantly at home. Kolekbibo literally stands for ‘Collecting Happiness’ and the women live by the mission to ‘follow your joy’, regardless of the circumstances. What struck me most was the genuine care behind everything they do. A beautiful reminder that meaningful change often begins with simple acts of kindness, shared meals and people showing up for one another.

I had the privilege of spending time with these inspiring women, listening to their stories and capturing a small part of what makes Kolekbibo so special. This is Collecting Happiness, a series about the people, places and stories that remind us where happiness truly lives.
